This statement is made in line with NHS procurement requirements for sustainability and the UK Government’s Net Zero Strategy.

1. Commitment

Smile Avenue Limited publicly commits to achieving net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2040, with the ambition to achieve this target sooner where possible.

2. Target Date

We confirm our Net Zero target year is 2040.

3. Current Actions to Reduce Emissions

We are taking practical steps to reduce our environmental footprint, including:

  • Transitioning to energy-efficient infrastructure such as LED lighting, modern HVAC systems, and water-efficient equipment.
  • Encouraging sustainable travel for staff and patients through active travel options, EV charging points, and ride-sharing initiatives.
  • Reducing reliance on single-use plastics while promoting recyclable or biodegradable alternatives where clinically appropriate.
  • Using digital dentistry to reduce gypsum waste, including:
    • Intraoral scanners and digital workflows that reduce the need for traditional impressions, lowering gypsum model production.
    • When physical models are essential, working with laboratories that recycle gypsum responsibly in line with environmental regulations.
    • Secure digital storage systems that reduce the requirement for physical model retention and repeat impressions.
  • Implementing digital systems across the practice to reduce reliance on paper, printing, and postage.
  • Working with suppliers that demonstrate sustainable practices and carbon reduction initiatives.

4. Monitoring and Reporting

We will monitor our carbon impact and review progress annually. Progress will be benchmarked against NHS sustainability guidance, with updates published as part of our ongoing commitment.

5. Publication

We confirm that our organisation has made a commitment to achieve Net Zero, and this commitment is published on our website and updated periodically to reflect progress.
