Dental Crowns
If damaged or discoloured teeth are affecting your smile, crowns offer a natural-looking solution. Sometimes called “caps,” crowns fit over the entire tooth, covering imperfections caused by chips, decay, discolouration, or large fillings.
Crowns can be made from a variety of materials, including metal, porcelain, resin, or ceramic. In addition to improving the appearance of a tooth, they can provide strength and support for a dental bridge or be placed over a dental implant.
Benefits of Crowns
Improve the appearance of damaged or discoloured teeth
Protect and strengthen weakened teeth
Blend naturally with your existing teeth
Fixed securely in place for lasting durability
Boost confidence by restoring your smile
Treatment Steps
Tooth Preparation – A thin layer of the tooth structure is removed to make space for the crown while ensuring a strong foundation. The amount removed depends on the type of crown material used.
Impressions and Shade Matching – Moulds (impressions) of your teeth are taken, and the colour is recorded to ensure the crown blends in naturally.
Temporary Crown Placement – A temporary crown is fitted to protect the tooth while your permanent crown is being custom-made.
Permanent Crown Fitting – Once ready, the temporary crown is removed, and the permanent one is securely fixed in place using strong dental cement.
Aftercare for Crowns
To keep your crown in good condition:
Brush your teeth twice a day with fluoride toothpaste
Floss daily to clean between your teeth and around the crown
Visit your dentist regularly for check-ups
Avoid biting down on hard foods or objects to prevent damage
While a crown protects the tooth from decay, the area where it meets the gum is still vulnerable. Maintaining good oral hygiene is essential to prevent gum disease and keep the tooth and surrounding area healthy.
